Wildlife Parks · Southern Tanzania
The easiest safari from Dar es Salaam.
Mikumi National Park is the easiest safari to reach from Dar es Salaam, and it is often called the little Serengeti because of the open Mkata Floodplain at its heart. The Uluguru and Rubeho mountains rise on the horizon, and the plains below are home to giraffe, zebra, buffalo and wildebeest.
The park is compact and well suited to a short trip. A few hours’ drive from the coast brings you to dependable game viewing, and a weekend or three-day trip is enough to see the main sights.
Mikumi also makes a natural first stop on the southern circuit. Udzungwa’s rainforest is close, and Ruaha and Nyerere are within easy reach by air or road.
