About Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Udzungwa Mountains National Park protects part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, an ancient chain of forested ranges that is celebrated for its biodiversity. Many plants, birds and primates here are found nowhere else on earth.

This is a hiking park, not a drive-through park. Well-marked trails lead through cool, dense forest, past rivers and viewpoints, and to the tall Sanje Waterfall, where you can swim in the pool at the base. A guide is required and helps you spot monkeys, birds and butterflies.

Udzungwa is only about an hour beyond Mikumi, which makes it a natural way to add forest and walking to a classic southern savannah safari.
