A few beach days after safari is one of the most popular ways to end a Tanzania trip. The two questions are how long to stay and which part of the island suits you.
How many days?
Three nights is a gentle finish, with one day in Stone Town, one on the beach and one for a spice tour or a boat trip. Five nights gives you time to slow down properly, and a week suits those who want to dive, kite-surf or simply do nothing.

North coast: Nungwi and Kendwa
The northern beaches have calm, swimmable water at nearly all tides, a lively atmosphere and good sunsets. This is the best choice for first-time visitors and for swimming.
East coast: Paje and Jambiani
The east coast has wide sandy flats and dramatic tides that go far out, which makes swimming harder at low tide. It is famous for kite-surfing and has a relaxed, barefoot feel.
South and south-west
Quiet coves, dolphin trips and fewer crowds. It is a good choice for travellers who want peace and nature.
Stone Town
Spend at least half a day walking the old town with a local guide. The markets, doors and historic buildings give the island its character. Dress modestly, as Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim island.
When to go
June to October and December to February are the most reliable, while April and May are the wettest months. We can book flights, transfers and hotels to fit your safari dates.
